Project Overview

Cakes for a Cause is a fictional nonprofit bakery website developed as a full-stack concept project. The goal was to create a visually engaging, responsive site that highlights the organization’s mission while allowing users to browse cakes, place orders, and contact the team. This project demonstrated both front-end development skills and back-end planning.

Process

I served as the full-stack developer, designer, and content strategist. My role included:

  • Designing the UI and layout using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Creating styled, responsive forms for contact and ordering.
  • Simulating backend functionality with PHP and planning a MySQL schema for future database integration.
  • Formatting assets and graphics in Photoshop to ensure a polished presentation.

Key Features

  • Fully responsive multi-page layout (Home, Cakes, About, Contact, Order)
  • Clean, modern UI with consistent branding and navigation
  • Styled forms with dynamic server-side submission handling
  • Intuitive information architecture and accessible content structure
  • Scalable backend schema for future database integration

Final Outcome

The completed site highlights my ability to build user-centered websites from the ground up, with a strong focus on clear layout, purposeful design, and future scalability. Deliverables included a responsive front-end, PHP-based form submissions, and database schema planning.

Reflection

This project strengthened my versatility as a designer and developer, showing that I can balance UI design, front-end implementation, and backend planning. If expanded further, I would connect the MySQL database to create a live order management system.
